A perfect family getaway in the heart of Switzerland
Anyone who loves the Swiss mountains as much as we do should definitely travel in the direction of the Vierwaldstättersee. More precisely: to Melchsee-Frutt. After the snow-free holidays in the lowlands, we were lucky to be able to spend a perfect family weekend in the snow high above Lucerne.
And what definitely has to be mentioned is the uncomplicated journey: We parked our car comfortably in the multi-storey car park Stöckalp and loaded our (ski) luggage at the gondola- our weekend domicile, the frutt Family Lodge handled everything from then on, transporting all our luggage directly to our rooms and the (heated) ski room. Wow, what a feel-good service!
The gondola ride to the top station was a 15-minute experience with an amazing view, which was sweetened by small gifts from the extremely courteous employees of the Melchsee-Frutt Railway. We fell in love instantly before even arriving.
The short walk to the frutt Family Lodge led us through the cosy Melchsee-Frutt with a view of the frozen Melchsee, over which the free drag lift leads to the ski area. After we had moved into our spacious family rooms, we had to instantly explore the family-friendly SPA-area. So get in your swimming trunks, and head straight to the feel-good zone. We were quiet sceptical at first, but it turned out to be a wonderfully relaxing area with three different saunas, a relaxation room (yep, it's really quiet there), and three child-friendly pools. Not to forget the small outdoor terrace, where you could cool off in the fresh snow. The tea and snack station not only made the smallest guest feel at home here. Just a little tip - don't go too crazy on the dried fruits, it would be a pity not beeing hungry anymore...
No, I admit that a family hotel has not been our thing so far and we wouldn't have dreamt feeling this comfortable in a restaurant of a family hotel. Children screaming. A no-go when eating-totally absent here. Both the food, as well as the service before, during and after the meal was so attentive, the kids had their hands full with ordering, eating and playing- a well planned and thought-out family concept. The absolute highlight for our children was of course the playroom with a kicker, bowling alley, dartboard and PS4 console (for the little ones there is a supervised playroom with a dollhouse, handicraft and Lego table). Meanwhile, us grown-ups were fascinated by the diverse menu. Have we mentioned the attentive service? Ah yes.
The Melchsee-Frutt ski area welcomes you with snow fun between 1,080 and 2,255 m above sea level on 14 modern transport facilities - these reach 36 km of pistes in all degrees of difficulty. In the snow-reliable holiday region, versatility is on the menu: the smallest winter sports enthusiasts can experience unforgettable hours in the free Fruttli Land with its magic carpet, ski carousel and the like. This is while the grown-ups glide over gentle hills, conquer challenging steep slopes or draw their lines in fresh powder snow. Freestylers, on the other hand, prefer fruttpark. ch, where you will find the optimal terrain with rails, kickers and boxes. For tempo freaks, the ski-cross ski slope offers a fast-paced mix of jumps, waves, curves and glide bars. And if you prefer sledging over skiing, you'll also get your money's worth: the eight-kilometre-long sledge run with a difference in altitude of just under 1,000 metres is the longest sledge run run in Central Switzerland. The trip from Melchsee-Frutt to Stöckalp is an experience for young and old.
We have definitely discovered a small piece of paradise and are we can already say with certainty- frutt Familylodge, we will be back!
