Mother tongue: I pack my bags

Do you feel the same as me and are you counting the days until the long-awaited holiday start? When the computer is turned off, the suitcase has been carried up from the cellar and you've slipped into the bathing suit? At latest since my family doctor confirmed a veritable vitamin D deficiency, I just want to get out and enjoy the nice weather. Although - we're going to Ireland this summer, where the sun is not necessarily guaranteed. The weather forecast at least is more reminiscent of rubber boots and tippets than Mallorca acne. Which certainly has something to offer. (Next time in this section I will report and give you tips for travelling to Ireland with a children.)

But no matter whether you' re getting on the plane or checking into the Badi around the corner in the near future: We should leave our need to plan even the best time of the year completely at home. The soul should be able to relax and not be dragged from one leisure highlight to the next. Which is about the same way I used to spend my holidays. Flying there, taking care of your luggage, racing off. Check off, tick off, tick off, fall into bed, the next day the same program. After all, we didn't want to miss anything. Been there, done that. The first time I was in this mode with a child, it quickly became clear that this was not possible. My head buzzed, the child grumbled, we lost shoes, caps, pacifiers and finally our nerves. After the holidays we were ready for a holiday. Meanwhile I realized that there is really was one more person who has joined our small travel group. And that this little person certainly requires an adapted travel itinerary.

Recently, for example, we were in London and would have risked loud protest if we hadn't walked to "the men with the big hats" in front of Buckingham Palace. Or to the great playground in Hyde Park, where you can storm a pirate ship in memory of Lady Di. And get in touch with the city's moms, dads and nannies. Getting to know the real life. It was an aha experience for me. Of course, our little human wants to discover this world, which is still quite unknown to him. And so we experienced the city behind the guidebook. In this sense: It is worth planning more time not only to hunt hotspots, but to follow the beetle that your child is already after. And which may take you to places you would never have discovered otherwise.
