A tepee or canopy? We have the most important tips for children's room furnishings

Furnishing the children's room.

Some people dread it, while others are as happy as a spring flower.

But it's really easy if you know the right tips. We have summarised the most important things for you so that you and your children will feel right at home in their new nursery.

Dimensions and colour concept

Before you start decorating, it's best to make a plan.

The first thing to do is to find out how much space is available. And does the room already have a colour scheme or are you putting together a new one? We recommend that you use light colours in a smaller room, as they reflect the light and make the room look larger and airier.

But don't be afraid to let your and your kids' favourite colours flow into the furnishings. For example, you can set colour accents with a playful wall ornament or decoration, such as a rainbow magnetic board from Atelier Pierre or a money box on/in a bookshelf, but also with a bright carpet.

Light in the nursery

You can also set beautiful accents with great lights.

In a larger room, a floor light is great, which your kids can also play with. We recommend the whale Christian or one of our Miffy lamps.

If you don't have enough space in the children's room to put something else on the floor, we have the perfect solution for that too. With the mood and wall lights from Atelier Pierre, you can set great accents on the wall without taking up too much space. Like the Miffy, the lights can also be used as night lights. They even provide enough light for night-time breastfeeding or nappy changing.

Must haves for the nursery

It's also a good idea to make a list of useful things that should not be missing from your children's everyday life. For example, nice clothes hooks so that your kids always have enough space to hang up their jackets.

But you can't do without sensible toy storage either. We highly recommend the storage boxes from Aykasa and Liewood. If you prefer a more natural look, you can also find great wicker baskets here.

The boxes and baskets look great in a bookshelf in the children's room, so that everything has its place and your child knows exactly where things belong.

We also recommend that you consider whether there are elements that you already have and would like to keep. This brings us to the last point.

Old and new elements for a cosy atmosphere

Many older pieces of furniture can be combined with new ones. For example, do you have an old but practical Cabinet or wardrobe? Such furniture goes very well with new and simple designs, such as the tables and stools from blueroom, and creates a cosy atmosphere in combination.

Or maybe you still have a doll's house from when you were little, like ours from Plantoys. Wouldn't it be great to pass on such pieces to your little ones? We definitely think so.

If you don't like the things you already have at home or don't want to keep them, just send them to Kidis. All you have to do is send them to our partner Kidis.ch. For the items that are still in good condition, you will then receive 25% of the purchase price back in the form of Stadtlandkind vouchers. Items that cannot be resold will then be passed on to those in need.

Theme worlds

To make decorating a child's room even easier, it's also best to think of a theme.

The main thing is that it goes "Hum Hum".

For example, is your child crazy about anything with four wheels that goes "Hum Hum"? We have the great carpet from OYOY, the play mat Leo Lia and various vehicles, small ones for indoors and big ones for outdoors.

Discover underwater worlds

Or would your child rather discover the underwater world? The ball pool, for example, is fun for children and adults because it covers the floor with balls at most but not with water. With an octopus or a whale soft toy and blue bed linen for the big wide sea, there's nothing to get in the way of an underwater theme.

Nursery for nature kids

Of course, we also have the perfect furnishings for all nature kids. We're thinking of a tepee tent and, for example, bed linen in earth tones or wall decorations with a lion or a giraffe and Stapelsteins on the floor as imitation stones. To create a real sense of camping, you'll also find beautiful canopies here. This is guaranteed to turn your child's room into a natural adventure park.

A kingdom for kings

You're not convinced yet? How about a castle for your king? With our Ronja canopy from OyOy or a canopy from Sebra, you can transform any bed into your child's favourite fortress. Add a hobbyhorse with its own stable. The fairytale room is complete.

The plan is now in place and the search for new treasures for the children's room can begin - we wish you and your kids lots of fun!
