Mother tongue: The most beautiful sides of autumn

Outside it's raining again, so the summer has really packed its suitcases and set off for the south. Grmpf. But it doesn't matter, autumn has its beautiful sides too - in this case literally - between two book covers. When it gets wet and cold outside, we cuddle up at home, invite our neighbours' children, steam cocoa and read aloud. I firmly believe that love for books is inherited. At least my daughter had her first stack of delightful reading material waiting for her before she was even born. Today she makes herself comfortable in her "reading lounge". Among the new releases of this season I noticed some really great novelties again. Books with messages and beautiful illustrations. And they are also fun for the aesthetically interested reader, often you read a book to your children again and again and "please just one more time".  In addition there are the most beautiful things for a cosy reading corner:

Stack some colourful Nobodinoz mattresses on top of each other. As a princess (or prince) on the pea, reading is as good as ever.

In the glow of the Brown lamp of Papamaria you can browse outstandingly.

The baby book made of soft fabric by Wee Gallery captivates even the smallest bookworms.

Up! Warsaw's airplane shelf assembles the latest favourite books.

Come cuddle under the pineappleg. Blanket from ferm LIVING.

It's good to be different.

This book is teeming with heckling suit wearers and yapping equalizers - only a funky dog lady doesn't fit into this uniform mush at all. So she emigrates to Bellowood. Where everyone is like her, she doesn't even notice standing out. And she finally asks herself: Was it perhaps not so bad as a colourful dog? A brightly coloured tribute to tolerance, diversity and self-confidence.

"A colourful dog" by the British illustrator Rob Biddulph has been published by Diogenes. From 3 years.

"No future" is so yesterday's news.

What do Papa and Mama do when they are at work - and what does the child perhaps want to do for themselves? How about instead of becoming a firefighter or vet, a career as a beer brewer, astronaut or drummer in a punk rock band? Go where your heart takes you. The (professional) world is full of possibilities. And the graphic illustrations of this book will also enchant the readers.

"When I grow up, I will ..." by the Polish illustrator (and drummer) Dawid Ryski was published by Kleine Gestalten. One of my favourite children's book publishers ... From 3 years.

Courage

At least 211 crayons were used for " the club of the courageous ". A poetically crazy picture book in beautiful colours. It tells the story of the siblings Hannes and Janna and their super strict secret club, for whose membership you have to dare a lot.

"The Club of the Brave" by Catherine Kuhlmann was published by the Swiss publisher Bohem. From 3 years.

Look over the edge of your plate

It doesn't always have to be the Grimm Brothers: Georgia's rich fairytale culture is hinted at by this beautifully made volume, illustrated by young illustrators from the country. Here, the most beautiful realism is interwoven with the magical.

"The King Who Couldn't Laugh" was published by NordSüd Verlag. From 10 years.

Rabbit in Wolfskin

The rabbit doesn't want to be afraid anymore and sews himself a wolf costume. The rabbit actually makes the real wolf flee - but it also scares off his friends. Until the mole, hedgehog and owl notice who - surprise! - is actually in the costume.

"I'm a wolf said the rabbit" is the first picture book by Jadwiga Kowalska and was published by Atlantis. From 4 years.
