Mother talk: Into the Woods

Just a moment ago they lay almost endlessly in front of us - and now they are over again: the summer holidays. So it's time for many new beginnings, kindergarten starts, maybe even school. My little girl becomes part of a forest playgroup. She' s been looking forward to it for weeks: When will it finally start? When do I get my hiking backpack? And you better not come with me, Mom. "I want to wander around the forest alone." No objections on my part, I have made various plans for this half day per week: Jogging, learning a foreign language, finally cleaning the windows. The usual. My plans go beyond the scope of these few hours without children or office fuss. And the primary aim of the forest playgroup project is for our child to get to know the diversity and beauty of nature. Our little one should experience the seasons up close. Summer, when it is pleasantly cool in the forest. Raspberries and strawberries glow red. Autumn with its colourful leaves and dances in the rain. What mushroom is sprouting there? Why is the squirrel in a hurry to replenish its supplies? And then the winter, which colors the noses red and covers everything in a cool white. And finally, it gives way to spring, which makes the birds chirp and fresh green sprout. As an adult, a walk through the forest calms me down more reliably than anything else. Looking into the green is pure happiness. I want this space to be a playground for my child, full of discoveries. It should chase beetles, boil mud soup, wade through streams and build tree huts. And understand from an early age what a great treasure we have right on our doorstep. A treasure to protect. Because that's what you do with what you love. Don't you?
