An imaginative adventure with Roberto Begnini

Woodcarver Geppetto (Roberto Begnini) gets the perfect piece of wood for his latest project: a marionette. But then something magical happens: the nose-like wooden puppet suddenly starts talking, it starts walking, running and eating - just like a normal boy. Geppetto calls him Pinocchio (Federico Ielapi) and raises him like his own son. But Pinocchio is finding it increasingly difficult to stay well-behaved. Easily influenced, one misfortune after the other happens to him. He is kidnapped, tricked, and pursued by bandits through a world full of imaginative creatures and places: from the belly of a giant fish to the field of miracles to toy land. The fairy with the dark blue hair, his loyal girlfriend, tries to convince Pinocchio that his biggest dream can only come true if he improves: because Pinocchio wants to be a real flesh-and-blood boy one day.

The official theatrical release date is 9 July 2020!

Director Matteo Garrone created a friendly and imaginative adventure with his film adaptation of the classic by Carlo Collodi. Garrone refrained from using too many special effects and relied instead on old-masterly film-making, which can be seen especially in the work of the renowned make-up artists. Until actor Federico Ielapi looked like Pinocchio, he had to spend three hours in make-up in the mornings. But the effort was worth it, PINOCCHIO was able to enchant the audience in Italy in December 2019 and has already thrilled over 2.73 million cinema-goers.
