The new children's musical by the Children's Dance Theatre Claudia Corti

For 50 years, the Claudia Corti Children's Dance Theatre has been bringing a children's musical to the stage of Theater Winterthur in the run-up to Christmas.

This year it is the German children's book classic "Peterchens Mondfahrt" by Gerdt van Bassewitz. This story about the May beetle Mr. Sumsemann, who has lost his sixth leg and is now searching for it, does not leave the two children Annelise and Peterchen cold. They decide to help him in his search and off they go on an adventurous journey to the moon. On the way, they meet the night fairy, take a sleigh ride on the Milky Way, get to chatting with the natural spirits, ride on the big bear and meet the sandman in the starry meadow. The sandman helps them to outwit the bad man on the moon and to win back the little leg for the May beetle.

This colourful story is danced, sung and acted by 180 children and young people aged between 4 and 24. The performances of the Children's Dance Theatre have a long tradition in Winterthur. The ballet school was founded 50 years ago by Claudia Corti and was directed by her until last year.

Since this year, the overall artistic responsibility lies with Yuriy Volk. He grew up in Dnipro/Ukraine and was trained as a ballet dancer there. He came to Switzerland at the age of 16 to complete the last year of his training. He then danced for 10 years at the Zurich Opera House under Heinz Spoerli before joining Claudia Corti as a dance teacher and choreographer in 2010.
