This year it is the German children's classic "Peterchens Mondfahrt" by Gerdt van Bassewitz. This story of the cockchafer Mr. Sumsemann, who has lost his sixth leg and is now searching for it, does not leave the two children Annelise and Peterchen cold. They decide to help him in his search and off they go on an adventurous journey to the moon. On the way, they meet the night fairy, take a sleigh ride on the Milky Way, get caught up in a coffee klatch of nature spirits, ride on the big bear and meet the sandman on the starry meadow. He helps them to outwit the bad man on the moon and reclaim the little leg for the cockchafer.
This colorful story is danced, sung and acted by 180 children and young people between the ages of 4 and 24. The performances of the children's dance theater have a long tradition in Winterthur. The ballet school was founded 50 years ago by Claudia Corti, who also ran it until last year.
Since this year, Yuriy Volk has had overall artistic responsibility. He grew up in Dnipro/Ukraine and also trained as a ballet dancer there. He came to Switzerland at the age of 16 to complete the last year of his training. He then danced for 10 years at the Zurich Opera House under Heinz Spoerli before joining Claudia Corti as a dance teacher and choreographer in 2010.
