Invasion der Osterhasen

Invasion of the Easter bunnies

The child opens his eyes. His first word in weeks: "Easter bunny!"

How my daughter knows anything about the existence of the hopping egg supplier is beyond me. Grandma recently taught her how to build a nest via Skype. From moss
of course, my two-year-old eagerly lisped "Mossss". In any case, she looks
the rabbit's visit with squealing anticipation, which also infects us parents. At the same time
not so long ago, we were thinking about how we actually feel about all these gift-giving wonder creatures. Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and even the Easter bunny.

Are we selling our children for fools when we serve them these "alternative facts"? Well, a child's belief in all these figures often brings some relief to everyday life, which doesn't always run smoothly. "The Christ Child sees everything" is a common refrain when you're at the end of your tether. And indeed, my daughter seems to have more respect for a furry long ear than - let's say - I do. In fact, I've already held out the prospect of a bunny strike when Ada once again wanted to go to nursery dressed only in diapers. Which made me feel quite stupid. As an adult woman, do I really have to send a fantasy figure to sort things out for me? It doesn't feel good somehow. So we saved ourselves the trouble of weighing up the pros and cons of the Easter bunny and, as with so many things, decided on the basis of our gut feeling.

In two weeks' time, a moss nest will be waiting on our balcony for the Easter bunny to conquer the not insignificant height difference up to the 4th floor. Because explain to a two-year-old who has been circling the Easter stalls in the supermarket since February, beaming with joy, that it's all just an outgrowth of our consumer culture. And perhaps it is precisely this little bit of magic that we adults sometimes miss in our lives. That little piece of the perfect world where everything is fine if you just eat your vegetables. My daughter can believe in egg-bringing rabbits, mermaids or eight-armed gods for all I care. And maybe she will reproach me for some things later, but certainly not for the fact that it was me who put the presents in her nest at Easter.

My favorites (not only) for Easter:

(1) Bag Eggy
This fun little egg bag from Donsje Amsterdam is best described simply as "yay".

(2) Memory Game
The classic for rainy days: the memory game with illustrations by Helen Dardik puts you in a good mood and also trains your memory. http://www.stadtlandkind.ch/shop/detail/5691/memory-game-72-pcs--3-yrs%2B

(3) Moccasin Apache Blush
So cute and yet doesn't leave a single gram on the hips: The baby moccasins from Petit Mai in Fribourg are made from ecologically tanned leather.

(4) Hat Bunny Wool Black
Because we don't just love cute bunnies at Easter. The little hat comes from the Korean label Mini Dressing.

(5) Hey Yum! Sour Flower
These pretty sweets are not really healthy either - at least all the ingredients are organic. And most of the sour gummies probably end up in Dad's tummy anyway.

(6) Cosmos nail polish
For once, my daughter is now allowed to paint her nails pink. The nail polishes from nailmatic kids are free from toxic ingredients and are easy to wash off.

(7) Children's bracelet Dalmatian black
Finally a pet and handmade in Switzerland too: this beautiful bracelet comes from Pirates & Ponies.

(8) Turban Scarf Black Wave Grid
To be honest, this scarf from the Berlin organic label Noé & Zoë is something I've been eyeing myself. A clear case of "twinning is winning"! http://www.stadtlandkind.ch/shop/detail/6703/turban-scarf-black-wave-grid

(9) Mr. Nelsson
We now have quite a few cuddly toys, but I'm sure there's still a place for Mr. Nelsson from Danish label Oyoy.

(10) Backpack Grid
This great backpack from tinycottons is perfect for outings. It can also be carried as a bag. A great example that beautiful design for children doesn't have to be kitschy.
