Muttersprache im Sommer: Es grünt so grün...

Mother tongue in summer: It's so green...

The blue sky above us, a bumblebee buzzes lazily by, the sounds of the road a lulling murmur. The soul dangles, sometimes so little is needed. A deckchair, for example, from which you can gaze out into the greenery. Today I'm writing to you from high above, from our roof garden. And I can't help but grin to myself. Who would have thought that I would give my green thumb another chance? The residents of our estate enjoy the luxury of being able to plant raised beds on one of the buildings. And it really does feel like a short vacation. Like a little oasis of peace, with seating and parasols. "If you want to be happy all your life, plant a garden," goes the saying. And indeed, my heart leaps for joy as soon as the first tomatoes turn red and the first green tips of the buried flowerbomb appear. My child is looking forward to the sweet strawberries, no one is too small to be a gardener. Even if it's just the windowsill where they sprout. Yoga was yesterday, today we garden for peace of mind. I only got nervous when my lovingly planted courgette showed the first signs of an unsightly coating. "Powdery mildew - the death sentence", as my neighbor said to me. However, the smart pensioner from the house opposite revealed her secret recipe to me: a concoction of garlic, onions and yarrow should do the trick. We'll see, there's always a little shrinkage. What will remain is the fun of watching the greenery grow and flourish, digging in the soil with others, getting dark edges under your fingernails. It's incredibly grounding, in the truest sense of the word. And helps new friendships grow. In our first summer as gardeners, it's not just the greenery that takes root.
