Little Sun
Germany
Little Sun was founded in 2012 by artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen. A perfect symbiosis of art and science that aims to make the power of solar energy accessible to all. Frederik and Olafur want to ensure that the use of sustainable light and energy can transform the lives of the 1.1 billion people who live without access to electricity. Little Sun's project is that for every solar lamp purchased in an industrialized region, one will be made available at a locally affordable price in areas without electricity - to people living in regions without access to electricity. The project began by making solar energy accessible in regions of Africa and with it access to more education, health and self-determination.
Little Sun - solar light with an impact
Little Sun was founded in 2012 by artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen - an interplay of art and science with a clear vision: to make solar energy accessible to everyone. The two founders are convinced that sustainable light can change the lives of the 1.1 billion people who live without access to electricity. Their approach combines design, function and social responsibility in a unique way. The principle is simple and effective: for every Little Sun lamp sold in an industrialized nation, another is offered at a locally affordable price in regions without electricity. In this way, the light not only reaches children's rooms in Europe, but also families in sub-Saharan Africa, where it promotes education, health and self-determination.
Design meets responsibility
The iconic Little Sun products such as the classic solar lamp or the sparkling Little Sun Diamond not only bring light into the darkness, but also conversations about sustainability, social justice and climate awareness into everyday life. The lamps are handy, robust, durable - and they tell a story. For families who think ecologically, act consciously and want to give children a sense of global connections, Little Sun is a real discovery.
