Summer adventures with the right sandals

When the sun shines, children love to be outdoors. Lightweight sandals give little explorers the freedom to run, climb and splash. They are airy and comfortable, allowing feet to breathe and keeping your child happy even on hot days. Paired with socks they can also be worn on cooler days.

Flexibility and support for small feet

The sole of a good children’s sandal should be flexible enough for kids to feel the ground yet stable enough to provide support. Orthopaedists recommend models that guide the foot and support the natural rolling movement. Be sure to measure your child’s feet properly and allow a little room to grow. Adjustable straps help achieve the perfect fit.

Materials and breathability

Children’s feet sweat faster than adults’. That’s why breathable materials such as leather or textiles are recommended – they keep feet dry and prevent irritation. Avoid shoes made of non‑breathable plastic. If your child loves splashing in puddles, choose water‑resistant sandals with quick‑drying straps. For longer hikes, hiking shoes provide the necessary protection.

Closed or open? – making the right choice

For young children, closed‑toe sandals are ideal because they offer more support and protect the toes. Older kids can switch to open sandals that let in more air. It’s important that the sole is non‑slip and the straps don’t pinch. For transitional weather, half shoes or first walkers are good alternatives – keeping you ready for any weather.

Care, size and tips for adventures

Regular cleaning and care prolong the life of sandals. Wipe leather with a damp cloth and condition it as needed. Textile sandals can be machine‑washed; let them air‑dry afterwards. Replace sandals when the soles wear out or toes reach the front. For particularly active days you can also pack a pair of sneakers – so your child is ready for every adventure.
