Living in a box

Living in a box... nothing describes the past few weeks better. We are ringing in 2017 in a new apartment. Blood, sweat and tears have flowed, but now we've moved, we've arrived. The last box unpacked. And that feels great! In the dark, my hand is still searching for light switches and door handles. Which she will soon know even when she's half asleep. We said goodbye to the beautiful but creaky parquet flooring and the three-party house. We swapped the old building for a new one and now live in a cooperative housing estate. Family-friendly, with over 100 children jumping around here. A few years ago, the thought of such a
would have made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up - today we throw our arms in the air:
How lucky we are!

Yes, our daughter is the reason for this move. And no, I have no regrets. Even if people are trying to instill unhappiness in us parents with stubborn insistence. Like in the Sunday press recently. Articles are written and studies are quoted: Children endanger your health! After cigarettes, booze and burgers, we are looking the next danger to life and limb in the eye. Gone are the good old days when the world revolved around us. We had a full bank account, a toned figure and mind-blowing sex. All the time. So let go of the offspring and just die out? Or take a chance and win hands down. Remember that life is hard and precious, exhausting and great. And that there are perhaps few things that show the joy of it more clearly than having children instead of a great career. Don't get me wrong, if you don't want to have children, you still have the best chance of being happy or not. What is annoying is this wimp mentality. What kind of society is it in which people are warned against having children? As if bringing up a hopeful being is purely a private project and not a first-class social contribution.

So get out of the box in which we parents sit and always think we have to get everything together on our own. Find your tribe. Love them hard. And give us the self-confidence that we alone determine what makes us happy. (The sex will work itself out.) They say it takes a whole village to raise a child, so we're not so far wrong with our settlement. A new phase of life begins in the coming year. Let's throw ourselves into the fun!

Leoni Hof - Mother tongue
Räbeliechtli songs and the new Tom Ford movie - somewhere in between is where Leoni Hof's life takes place. She is culture editor at the magazineBolero magazine and has been a mother for two years. Since then, the 38-year-old has continued to what's going on in art at the moment, where you absolutely have to travel (now with a child) or which is the best yoga studio in town. But still so much more. The German has been living in Zurich for eleven years and will now be introducing us here in the blog about her everyday life as a working mom. About what she what moves her, what she likes and what she doesn't like.
