"Tua Tia" (Baobab tree basket)
This extraordinary basket takes its name from the African baobab tree. It has been specially woven by one of the talented weavers of the Baba Tree Company in Ghana according to the characteristics of the baobab tree. The baobab tree, also known as the "mother tree", provides plenty of shade and bears very sweet fruit. The spiral features of this basket are one of the main specialties of Baba Tree weavers. It takes a lot of patience, practice and time to make such a Tua Tia basket.
Baba Tree baskets are made by hand in Bolgatanga, Ghana, using traditional craftsmanship. It takes an experienced weaver 4-5 days to make a basket of this size. Baba Tree craftspeople are paid a fair wage and also receive a commission when one of their works is sold.
