I tend to get hectic spots when I see little girls in pink plastic outfits. Unfortunately, this happens to me with great regularity: Hello Kitty, Frozen and whatever other nastiness is lurking around always seems to be in vogue. I'm already praying to all the gods that this chalice of kitsch will pass us by. We shall see. Until then, I'm sticking to designer Dieter Rams' maxim of "less is more" when it comes to my daughter's clothes. If you look in her - not exactly sparsely stocked - closet, you'll see pants, sweaters and dresses in black, gray and white. An animal print here and there, and I'm also tempted by mauve. You won't find pink or rose, however, and the few items I've received as gifts are immediately consigned to the crib as a change of clothes. (Dear relatives, now it's out ...) When Ada was still a baby, she was often mistaken for a boy. But why should girls only wear candy colors? Of course I dress my daughter in the way I like best, but at the same time I want to give her the freedom to develop her own taste with a neutral color palette. And not force her to be a princess. You rarely come across them in real life.
Do you think that's a bit of a joke? Well, don't panic: One of my highlights of the coming season is the collection from BANGBANG Copenhagen. Behind it are the Danish designers Louise Lundholm and Mia Risager. Their creations are playful but not kitschy and have an artistic quality that I really like. The love doesn't stop after the first wash, and the materials are also convincing.
The world is a circus, every piece shouts. As a key piece, the cat dress is very popular with us, but the tights also go wonderfully with Ada's plain looks. The ones with one green and one blue eye are a tribute to David Bowie. We love! And literally: the sweatshirt with a kissing mouth and gold teeth is also available in an adult size. And while I've vehemently resisted the twinning trend until now - now it's got me!
