What is Bananatex®?

Bananatex® is derived from the abacá plant, a wild banana species native to the Philippines. It grows in a natural permaculture system—alongside cacao and teak trees—without artificial irrigation or pesticides. The plant thus actively contributes to biodiversity and the reforestation of former farmland.

The harvested fibers are processed into a fine pulp, from which uniform yarn strips are produced. Its natural porous structure makes the fabric breathable and moisture-regulating.

When combined with soft organic long-staple cotton (GOTS-certified), the result is a lightweight, comfortable feel. Abacá is one of the most tensile-strong natural fibers—the fabric retains its shape and remains durable even with frequent wear and washing.
